About Us

The DAWL Lab at Western Kentucky University is dedicated to advancing understanding of the challenges and opportunities people face at work and in life. Our research explores the work–life interface, discrimination, and mistreatment, with a focus on both basic science and applied solutions that improve organizational and individual well-being.

Our Story

We are committed to uncovering how experiences such as workplace mistreatment, bias, and work–life conflict affect employee health, safety, and performance. By combining rigorous quantitative methods with a passion for real-world impact, our team bridges the gap between research and practice. Our work informs organizations, policymakers, and communities on strategies to foster healthier, more inclusive, and more productive workplaces.

The lab’s projects span topics such as:

  • Work–life interface: how employees navigate demands across work, family, and personal roles.

  • Discrimination and bias: understanding the mechanisms and consequences of inequity in the workplace.

  • Workplace mistreatment: examining incivility, bullying, and other negative experiences that undermine well-being.

Through collaborations with students, community organizations, and interdisciplinary partners, we aim to produce knowledge that not only contributes to the scientific community but also creates meaningful change in everyday working lives.
